The position of “deacon” within the church is one of service. This distinction is seen in the Greek word diakonos, which can be translated as “minister” or “servant”. The Deacon Ministry at First Baptist Cary is based on Acts 6: 1-6 and is divided into 4 teams with each team focusing on one of four service areas: Handyman, Hospital and Bereavement, Outside Greeters/Parking, and Widow/Widowers.
Handyman Team is available to assist church members in need with things like moving furniture, minor home repairs, HCP ramp construction, etc. To email this team click here, or you may submit a request online by clicking here.
Hospital and Bereavement Team helps church staff with visiting ill church members in local hospitals, homes and assisted living facilities. They also visit bereaved families and try to be available for help and comfort in times of grief. This ministry supplements, and does not replace the ministry of our Pastor and church staff. Members should advise the Pastor’s Ministry Assistant of their related needs, these needs are forwarded by email to all deacons for prayer support and to Team members for specific follow up. Outside Greeters/Parking Team assists with friendly relieving of traffic issues in our parking area between the Sunday school time and the 10:30 AM service. They provide the first point of contact to our guests and are available to assist members and guests, particularly HCP and families with small children, to maintain a safe environment. They also serve during church special events. To email this team click here.
Widow/Widowers Team helps meet the practical and spiritual needs of our member widows and widowers. To email this team click here.
All deacons assist the Pastor and church staff in receiving potential new members and in serving the Lord’s Supper.
